Trials of new material for Super Redways

29 July 2017

MK Highways has undertaken trials of new materials for use on the Super Cycleways project, this material will restore the original colour, improve surface ride quality and extend the life of the redway.

MK Highways has prepared a section of redway through Oldbrook parallel to the H6 Childs Way to carry out test trials of new materials to be applied on the Super Cycleway project. It involved filling cracks and holes in the surface before the treatment is applied. We have tried 3 new materials each with different properties in a variety of combinations to determine what is best to use.

One of the materials applied in the trial was used to create the 'blue' cycleway surfacing network in London and therefore has a proven track record for durability and surface improvement for cyclists, of course if we choose this product ours will still stay 'red'.

When finished the materials will be trafficked and monitored before a decision is made as to which treatment to use.

Note : The trial areas are not the final colour that will be used on the Super Redways as the tests are for the material only. The treatments were hand applied during the trials the chosen material will be applied using a spray method which will give a more even finished surface.

If you cycle through this area we welcome any feedback on this material, please follow this link to tell us what you think ?
