Programme to convert Street Lights on Grid Roads enters final year

27 April 2017

The final phase of converting the Street Lights on MK Grid Roads starts in April.

Works on H5 Portway, V6 Grafton Street, V10 Marlborough St and V9 Overgate, together with a number of roundabouts will be completed this year, these will be the last phase of the main programme to convert to low energy LED street lighting on MK Grid Road network.

This will provide a number of benefits including a more effective, efficient lit environment that will help drivers at night as colours become truer and the human eye responds to images more effectively.

Additional benefits include a reduced maintenance regime as the new lights burn for 100,000 hours before replacement, this has reduced the energy by 125,000 kilowatt hours and reduced the carbon footprint by 1,000 tonnes per year.
