MK Highways through its service provider Ringway has now signed up to the national lighting recycling scheme controlled by the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) regulations which recycles up to 95% of the materials when we remove the column and old light from a street lighting location as part of our upgrade to new low energy LED lights and new columns.
The company we use for lamps is Recolight (recycling process in picture above) who collect all the old lamps removed from the street lights from our Milton Keynes depot to a facility that then processes and recovers all the re-useable materials.
We use a company called Lumicom to recycle the housing that the lamp fits in (luminaire), again up to 80% of the material is recovered and recycled back in to industry.
All the old columns removed are also recycled through a scrappage scheme as a metal recycled waste product.
