Improving our roads

our roads

Historically capital budgets have been insufficient to maintain the existing network to a steady state condition and the strategy has been to prioritise the 'worst first' roads, this has lead to an increasing backlog of repairs and a steady decline, this approach is not utilising the principle of 'minimising whole life costs' through preventative treatments, that ultimately enables management of an asset in the most cost effective, structured way.

A range of treatment types are available for use on the road surface, and each scheme is assessed and the most appropriate treatment is chosen for each section of road.

MK Highways are into the third year of their Transport Investment in the Highways network. In conjunction with their term service provider Ringway

This involves a £5.6 million roads programme for the year 2017/2018.This started in April and is likely to continue until November 2017.

The works take place on both local estate roads and also on our high speed grid road network. The amount of traffic management required to close a road on these different type of road will vary in accordance with national standards.

Each scheme will be advertised to the public with advance warning signs (with dates and times of closures) usually 10 days in advance and if necessary letters to individual properties of those directly affected.

Every closure will have a signposted 'Diversion' route so that traffic will be redirected around the closure in the most direct route allowable.
