Asset management

Milton Keynes Council's highway infrastructure is its most valuable asset, valued at £5.5 billion. It provides a transportation network for both businesses and individuals. It supports the Council Plan and emerging Mobility Strategy. We maintain our network in line with good highway asset management.

Milton Keynes has 763 bridges and structures and 61,000 highway drains (gullies). From our inspections, we know that we do not need to replace all our bridges, structures and drainage items at the same time. Instead, we use approaches known as a life cycle plan

and prevention. We apply factors to select schemes to bring about most improvement by assessing the condition scores to find the sections needing attention and treatments that best meet our policy aims and offer value for money then allocate the available funds to form projects, schemes and programmes of work.
